I hope all of you had a wonderful week as myself. I was very busy, but I can tell you that when you drive to work along the ocean side to your left, and the tropical mountain range are occupying your focus with its astounding beauty life is Not Bad at all.

Hawaiian chant and hula kahiko also accompany the ceremonial investiture. The happening is at the Honolulu Hale at 10am.

Post-Flossie, post-good, not bad actually, when you consider the sunny blue skies over Hawaii are back, birds are singing loud and clear, south-eastern coasts of the Hawaiian Islands got some solid surf, and water restrictions had been downgraded. Hawaiian Vacation Rentals...and weather

Like everyone else I was completely engaged in the recent weather conditions throughout the islands, and perhaps the world. August, usually the warmest month of all turned into gloomy, grey clouds overcasting shadow above the usual sunny, blue sky Hawaii. Flossie is the name of the trouble, that at the end brought us much needed rain, and probably or hopefully more gratitude. I truly can tell you, that the Islands are as astonishing in their natural beauty whether rain or shine. It feels though, as being surrounded by a botanical garden, all the tropical green freshly watered by Flossie's cloudy remnants ...my beloved Hawaii, so beautiful.

Aloha Friday's here and since life in Hawaii is beach, we are all getting ready the snorkel, and our endorsal fins to cool off the week's wear off in the emerald green waters in Oahu. The closer to the seashore the better, and so you can either bring your tent and your family and the family pet to the beach or if you're looking for a bit more comfort than what your beach gazebo can offer, a vacation beach rental might be the solution for you. Most of us here, the blessed people of Hawaii (as I'm writing this blog, the African Tulip tree is looking into the my office window, through the true blue sky, and the mix of the breeze and birdies sounds are slowly awakening me into receiving all what the tropics has to offer) are getting ready to enjoy the Island pleasures throughout the weekend. The weather forecasts some good swells on the southern tip of the Oahu shores, which always promises calm, emerald waters on the North Shore, my home place. We have left one month more of calm summery waters perfect for snorkel, and family oceanic trips, with bays filled with warm pools of water for the Keikis (kids) and coral reefs for the parents, who like to find some peace under the water in the presence of the magical sea life. And so that's my plan as well to become one with the underwater life, become a mermaid perhaps (lol)....

So today, we're back on Oahu, where lava is not flowing anymore, but the most famous volcanic crater in the world is here. Diamond Head located at the end of Waikiki, south-east coast of Oahu and overlooking the Pacific Ocean is one of the most sought after views on the postcards.
In case you're wondering why the crater is called the Diamond Head, here is to your curiosity:
When approaching the island from its south-eastern shores somewhere in the 1800, the British sailors observed the glittering in the sunlight slopes of the crater. What they believed to be diamonds, was actually the calcite crystals in the lava rock. No diamonds in the soil, I still like to say that because of that event, one of the most expensive, high-end residential areas in Hawaii - Kahala is located right here at the Diamond Head crater. And so many houses, called Hale in Hawaiian are named in the area something with "Diamond Head" in it.
Just taking a short drive or a walk in the area and you can quickly observe in astonishment, that each property if not of a value of a good size diamond, is as valuable as such thanks to the spectacular oceanic views, surrounding the area, and smaller craters of the Koko Head and the Haunama Bay. On a very clear blue sky day you can even see the the island of Maui.
Kahala neibhourhood is not only highly desirable due to luxury high end estates, but its fabulous location, minutes away from the famous Waikiki, the Kahala Mall with the largest Barnes & Nobles in Hawaii, and the nearby Kapiolani Park, makes it one of the top vacation destinations .

If you love waves....

...there is Waimanalo Beach Park. I've had the opportunity to play in the Waimanalo surf this weekend. The play turned into struggle to stay up and above the water, when I did not listen to my swimming instructor, who continuously provided me with the same instructions: "Duck In!".
I guess I'm a goose, because I could not duck in, no matter what. Maybe if I'd have a boogie boards, goggles, and NASA uniform to keep me safe from Portuguese man-of-wars, which successfully found me and give me their stingy kisses. Maybe and only then would I be a professional body surfer girl in Waimanalo. Another reason to keep my ocean adventures in the North Shore and get my oceanic spa treatment to gentle massages of the summery Sunset shore surf.
But I still love Waimanalo. With amazing scenery of the Koolau Mountain Range, and beautiful neighbourhoods, there is a house I would not mind coming back to and heal my wound in its backyard's. July 7 2007 "Luck" Anticipation

Contemplating all the news lately, tomorrow's apparent "lucky" date is the only other subject that was able for more than a moment to change the general public focus from the iPhone (69 million hits in the Google engine, but by tomorrow it might hit of course 77 hits) to anything else.
Apparently July 7 2007 is a great day to get married, have a baby, and as far as I'm concerned buy a Real Estate in Hawaii. Well you might as well do all those 3 things and then you just have to figure out the rest 4 and I guess you will be lucky for life, since you will have a great relationship, your child will be set for life, and of course you will own a home, that naturally you'll call "Lucky".
As far as Hawaii's concerned, I can only say that is a "lucky" coincidence (I guess) that there are seven main Islands in the Archipelago (by the way there are seven continents), and there are even seven wonders located magically in the island of Maui. Also the ancient esoteric wisdom of Polynesia, Huna is a Hawaiian word that means magic and stands for the seven principles of the local spiritual practice. Longest sandy beach on Oahu - Waimanalo Beach - is seven miles long.
Now if I was to choose my seven favorite homes on Oahu, they'd be: Waimanalo Villa, Kaalawai Lea, Sunrise Retreat, Wailea Lani, Longs at Lanikai, Naupaka Hale, Ocean Mist. iHawaii on iPhone...not

Even though we are considered geographically the most isolated archipelago on the earth, the iPhone hype traveled across thousands miles of the Pacific Ocean and the iPhone itself landed on the shelf of the Apple Store on June 29. Hawaii was announced the last place in the world where the new top tech gadget went on sale. That of course did not prevent the local residents, and the transient touristic traffic from giving up the usual joys of beach bathing and turning it into lounging with all the snorkel and what not and joining the waiting lines in front of the store.
It is as if we are not already shielding ourselves enough from the beauty of the surroundings, with our eyes fixed constantly on the cell phone, the iPod, behind our sunglasses and from under the visor or the cap. Now you gonna carry it all plus your iPhone until you figure out how your new toy works.
I see this phenomena everyday, when the crowds from the tourist buses are lining up to take a quick shot at Sunset, a picture one of thousands, that will rest on the memory card somewhere in the home office drawer. So I always find myself encouraging everyone, if you're here for short time, for a moment in time, to take a picture with the display of your own eyes, engaging all your senses, awaking to the experience as the Island speaks to you, through the glistening oceanic water, through the breeze, the smell of tropics. Let those moments in, and I guarantee you even the all-inclusive iPhone with the 2-mega pixel camera will not fit all you will see with your eyes wide open.
Looking at the prices you might spend on your new toy, I have a recommendation to gift yourself with couple nights at Lanikai, in a cottage, right at the ocean site. Maybe Longs at Lanikai, or perhaps Cottage at Lanikai, or Beachwalk,barefoot or with flip flips, on the hammock, or on the ocean. Views so magnificent, surroundings breath taking away and underwater treasures of fish and coral, nothing can take it all in, not even iPhone. Only you.
So iHawaii, in the paradisum, in the Eden of the most divine surroundings, and I iPhone not....

Who? When? How?

Aloha All,

Today instead of my personal thoughts I share with you on the Islands of Hawaii, let me bring you the actual numbers that represents the travel traffic what we're experiencing. I'm positive it?s growing by the day just looking at the traffic on the local roads, here on Oahu. I find myself driving behind slowly moving line of rental cars every day now, and that's due to the drive thru sightseeing?s - the new age (nothing in common though with the New Age) manner of exploring the touristy attractions...wherever you are.
As the local source reports, the number of arrivals ex. for the month of May heightened in comparison to last year, although the main Japanese market of visitors declined.
Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism reported as well that ?visitor spending in May 2007 increased 3.1 percent from last May to $914.5 million, boosted by growth in total visitor arrivals and slightly higher daily visitor spending".
Further down the numbers grid statistics are telling us that ?the total number of visitors rose 1.6 percent to 586,338, which was a record for the month of May. There were increases in visitors from the U.S. West (3.5 percent), U.S. East (6.8 percent) and Canada (8.4 percent). Arrivals from Japan fell by 10.3 percent".
Interestingly 40, 076 visitors who came to Hawaii in May 2007 flew in to the state to board cruise ships or came by cruise ships visiting Hawaii.
If you're wondering how much you'd spend on average, that number had been estimated to be around $179 per person per day, just a dollar more that same time, last year.
Good news for the Hawaii economy that the" visitor days for May 2007 increased 2.7 percent as total arrivals rose 1.6 to 586,338 visitors, setting a record for the month of May. The average length of stay was slightly longer at 8.71 days."
So, there you have it. If you'd like to join the above statistics, and you're not a fan of cruise ships, or drive thru vacation, I'd definitely recommend a long term vacation rental. A charming beach cottage in Lanikai, a luxury oceanfront villa on the North Shore, or a top Hawaii home at Diamond Head. Who? When? How? Endless Summer on Oahu...

Back from the weekend, I can only say again and again, Hawaii is the place to be, live, vacation and live & vacation. And I've really seen it and experienced it all this couple days.
My home place, the North Shore, once you get into the deep, ever so clear and green waters of the Sunset Beach, or Waimea Bay you may feel like there's nothing better then pretending to be a honu (turtle) and playing with the fish, not the big ones of course...
One of the best ways if you have a weekend budget on Oahu is to get a convertible and hug the road within the speeding limits of course and drive as far as your eyes can take you. It is a great joy to share that adventure with a good company if you have one, and if not let the surrounding scenery be your best travel companion. Continuously entertained by the changing and magnificent sights, I've traveled along the Windward coast, towards Waimanalo and Makapuu. I've even made a stop in Honolulu to promenade the Waikiki's crowded Kalakaua Ave.
And as it always happens to be the case I was exhilarated to be back to much more laid back, serene North Shore, the true Hawaii that is. Each opportunity as such to cruise the island brings me closer to my favortite subject of the Hawaii real estate. And I'm always mesmerized by all the great opportunities the market has to offer. Up close I've observed amazing renovations and upgrades to all the Oahu homes that are available for sale, or long term vacation rentals.

This & That for the weekend...

Even though we live in Hawaii, what can be translated by some, we're vacationing 24/7, we're still looking forward to the weekend as the rest of the country, perhaps the world. Most of us including myself make time on a daily basis to visit the ocean site, and enjoy its powerfully healing mana (energy). And so that's how I plan to spend this beautiful summer weekend.
But there are different celebrations around the Islands.
For example the Island of Lanai rejoice its 15th annual Pineapple Festival at Dole Park.
It will be yummy event with live music and and guess what - a pineapple-eating contest.
Can you imagine that just for $1.1 in 1922 James Dole bought the island, and in no time Lanai of roughly 141 square miles was the world's main pineapple manufacturer.
Of course throughout the years of economic changes on the Islands, Lanai has now only estimate of 100 acres of the fruit mainly purposefully preserved for its inhabitants consumption.

I'm here on Oahu and every now and then like to go to the Dole plantation just to have the pineapple ice cream, but for a great tasting pineapples I send you definitely to Maui, famous for the gold and very sweet fruit....

Hau'oli la Hanau

Today we're celebrating Happy Birthday of one of our very wonderful women, here in the office.
She's beautiful, gorgeous and and goes by the name of ...Caring, because she is...
Birthday in Hawaii is celebrated like everywhere in the world, but with a little bit more crush I'd say, considering that's the only place where you get a Lei instead of a traditional bouquet of flowers on your B-Day. It is actually one of a few ancient Hawaiian traditions that continue to flourish, and that's what we wish Caring, as she had been given Leis today, a symbol of love, celebration, friendship, honor. All that stands for Aloha. So with effervescent colors, invigorating fragrances of the flower leis Caring...is celebrating her birthday in Hawaii, with the orange lipstick I was asked to say..and her grand wish for today is to stay in Wailea Lani....one of the most luxurious properties you could ever imagine to be, live or vacation here in the Islands of Aloha...
Now the question is ...where is the secret admirer to make that happen....

In the Koolau Valley

You might think that Hawaii is all about beach & sand adventures, and you might be surprised to know that there is a place located at the foot of the 2,000 foot Ko'olau Mountains in the Valley of the Temples in Oahu's Kaneohe Region - the beautiful Byodo-In Temple.Built in 1968 to honor the 100th centennial of the arrival Japanese immigrant workers to Hawaii, it is the exact replica of the 950 old Temple in the city of Uji, in Japan. My very favorite part of the entire complex is the traditional Japanese garden, impeccably maintained along with the 2-acre Koi Pond. Majestic scenery for unforgettable vacation photos, a place of tranquility, reflection and meditation. I love the surrounding me smell of lavender and eucalyptus trees, the gracefully wandering peacocks and the Japanese monk with the smile of the one that reminds me Dalai Lama's.
In the Temple itself, you will be welcomed by the non-foot Lotus Buddha, largest wooden Buddha carved in over 900 years. Since it's non-denominational Buddhist Temple, it welcomes different faiths, and purposes of visit. I love going early in the morning, right at the opening around 8:30am, or late in the afternoon when all the tourist buses are gone, and so it feels the Temple reserved its essential sense of serenity just for me. Well to appreciate its beauty it's good to be selfish and explore its beauty and the surrounding when less crowded.
It might inspire you to have a garden, a temple of your own. If you've seen the movie "After the Sunset" I'm sure you resonate to the beautiful home & garden in it, and if you'd come to Hawaii for long term vacation, that would be your dream accommodation.
